Seeing Through
Complexity
project: G4 The Lloyd's Building
client: London Insurance Hub
location: London, UK
challenge
The Lloyd’s Building in London is the hub of the London Insurance Market. We were tasked with creating a digital environment that delivered a large amount of complex information in a concise and digestible experience.
concept
“Seeing through complexity” formed the foundation of the design language for the space. 12 interactive screens and a central digital wall create an informative experience, delivering depth of information in a layered UI. The central digital wall becomes the ‘AI brain’ that anchors the space and communicates with the 12 screens, which each enable deep dives into key topics. The entire experience is crafted to consolidate content from across the industry and present it in the most concise manner. This design allows for swift digestion of key topics when necessary while also facilitating detailed insight, all within an aesthetically beautiful and focus-driven environment.

The 12 screens are each composed of three interactive layers: a moving gradient in the background eludes to the depth of expertise behind the brand, and organically moves throughout the space. The interactive grid embodies the company’s precision in the insurance market, which reacts to visitors navigating the screens. Lastly key information is allowed to surface elegantly on screen, enhancing depth and knowledge in each interaction.

A manifesto
of individuality
project: Exquisite Human at CORE Festival
client: Tomorrowland
location: Brussels, Belgium
challenge
Created as part of an ongoing exploration into human curiosity, this installation delves into communication and interaction through art, as well as the collective connection of audiences.
concept
Exquisite Human is an experimental art piece encouraging interaction and collaboration between festival goers. Inspired by the surrealist game Exquisite Corpse, avid music fans are encouraged to express their individuality through their fashion and dance, whilst a collective mash up of their movements is displayed on large LED screens.

Perfection

Challenging
Perfection

Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man symbolises ‘ideal’ human proportions, reflecting the Renaissance fascination with symmetry, balance, and the intersection of art and science. Exquisite Human challenges this idea of perfection, celebrating human diversity through a playful and often hilarious interactive artwork. While still embodying the interplay of art and science, the piece utilises modern technology and the vibrant atmosphere of a music festival to create an accessible and inclusive experience.

The identity of the installation reflects its overall concept. The dynamic logo represents the diversity of humans, flexing in shape and size. The graphic language used in the animations and CTA is informed by the Vitruvian Man, and encourages festival goers to become co-creators, leaving their mark on the installation and blurring the lines between artist and observer.

Staging
a Feeling
project: Ufeel x MDW
client: Ufeel
location: Allianz MiCo, Milan, Italy
challenge
Ufeel approached us to design a central stage for a concert that had to captivate the audience across the day and into the night, whilst elevating the performances of a variety of musicians, all beneath the unique architectural skin of the MiCo Convention Centre in Milan.
concept
By employing fundamental geometric shapes alongside reflective material we created a scenographic intervention that amplified the daytime experience and provided a canvas for a captivating light show. Utilising the view of Milan’s City Life buildings as seen from the stage, the reflective material mirrored the lights from behind the audience, capturing the existing surroundings to amplify the effect across day and night.

Reshaping
Craftsmanship
project: Geppetto is Over at Milan Design Week
client: TA-DAAN
location: Milan, Italy
challenge
TA-DAAN is transforming perspectives on crafts, shifting from the dusty traditional image to a more youthful and punk aesthetic. We were tasked with bringing the e-commerce platform to life with a pop-up retail offering that showcased the diverse skills of multiple artisans.
concept
Geppetto is over: challenging the conventional image of an old-fashioned woodworker tinkering away in his workshop, this concept instead elevated the audacious contemporary artisans who defy conventions and showcased their distinct creations with attitude. The space was designed to reflect the confidence and voice of a new generation of artisans.

Reshaping Craftsmanship

Reshaping Craftsmanship

The first part of the building utilised a large floating wall of backlit polycarbonate to act as a beacon which drew in visitors from the street, whilst also providing an ideal backdrop for daily live demonstrations of wheel throwing, tufting, embroidery, and other artistic skills. The design incorporated the polycarbonate material to imbue the space with a sense of lightness and integrated the event’s tagline into the architecture as an embodiment of the TA-DAAN ethos, creating a captivating element that dominated the store’s entrance.

A Drive
to Keep Moving
project: Another Way at Milan Design Week
client: Cupra (Seat Group)
location: Milan, Italy
challenge
After a successful collaboration in 2021, Cupra (SEAT Group) asked us to create an experience to live alongside their flagship store in Milan. We needed to spark curiosity in passers by and ultimately drive visitors towards the store.
concept
Symbolising Cupra’s success in Italy and its ongoing expansion, every detail was designed around the concept of ‘forward momentum’. In Piazza XXV Aprile, in front of Milan’s historic Porta Garibaldi, we crafted an interactive installation inside a 12-meter shipping container. The container, through its luminous archways, housed a 7-meter LED wall manipulated by visitors’ movements. Across from it, scrolling text guided visitors from entrance to exit, creating a dynamic space shaped by each visitor’s interaction and leading them ‘another way’ towards the future.

Porta Garibaldi on Piazza XXV Aprile is one of the historic gateways and entrances into the city of Milan. To celebrate this incredible location Another Way creates a gateway into a forward thinking reality. The container and the elements designed inside link to transportation, movement, and momentum, and provided a sustainable environment to create a temporary installation.

Inside the Cupra store, visitors could leave answers to the question: what’s your impulse/future? Their answers were shown on a panel of marching text within the container. Combined with the interactive wall, the space emphasised how individual actions create a “snowball effect” and therefore highlight how every positive impulse is important and necessary. The levels of interaction allowed the visitor to visualise their own impulse in the surrounding space.

To create a multi sensory and accessible experience, we designed a bespoke soundtrack. Starting from the word Cupra and digitising the letters, natural and electric sounds were combined with the interactivity of the space resulting in a more immersive storytelling element, born directly from the Cupra brand.

Blurring
the boundaries
project: //Refracted Sound at Linecheck Festival 2022
client: Brots and Asian Fake
location: Milan, Italy
challenge
The music NFT platform Brots approached us to create an experience that would excite the public and industry professionals about music NFTs as a new digital music format. How do you represent this nebulous technology to the general public in an engaging way?
concept
Blurring the boundaries: //Refracted Sound was conceived as a spatial translation of blockchain technology, symbolising the blurring boundaries of physical and digital industries. By unifying scenography, multimedia, and audience engagement we created a unique experience for passionate music fans. Three listening booths brought to life songs from featured artists: Ginevra, Deriansky and Alda. The artists, from independent record label Asian Fake, provided songs which were accompanied by visual content created ad-hoc for the event.

A grid of plinths or ‘blocks’ was used to portray blockchain technology in physical space. Using every detail to bring this digital medium to life, binary code on each block spelt out MUSIC NFT, with the space arranged for visitors to move within the ‘blocks’, step inside the blockchain and discover the music of the featured artists.

Sustainably
Woven
project: The Weave
client: Mextropoli Pavilion 2022 Competition
location: Mexico City, Mexico
challenge
The Arquine International Architecture Competition called for the design and construction of a pavilion that, inserted in the city temporarily, manages to generate, based on its own discourse, an innovative and sustainable proposal, which allows the development of an open and public program that builds a place for the interaction between architecture and citizenship.
concept
The Weave is a tribute to one of the most ancient art forms of Mexico: weaving.
A celebration of sustainable processes and a circular economy. A celebration of colour.
A celebration of people. A celebration of Mexico. The pavilion acts as an interpretation of a two bars loom, allowing colourful threads to run along its length, washing the space with dappled sunlight and areas of shade for people to enjoy. The concept creates a dialogue between an ancient but living art form and a contemporary way to use public space.

the fabric of the city

the fabric of the city

the fabric of the city

The Weave is an explosion of colour supported by one of the most sustainable materials and processes; the structure uses Guadua bamboo scaffolding, native to Mexico and known as one of the strongest forms of woody bamboo. Reusable and incredibly sustainable, the construction process is non destructive, allowing the reuse of the bamboo. The canopy is created with threads, providing shade during the pavilion’s life, and later gifted to the local community alongside instructions to create their own woven piece, encouraging engagement with the ancient art form.

RELAX / MEET / PLAY

RELAX / MEET / PLAY

The pavilion encompasses three zones, each accommodating a different requirement. Relax: an area of relaxation and reflection where the final textile of the weaving technique provides soft, comfortable seating. Meet: an area for meeting and lunching with large benches functioning as both seats and tables. Play: a playful area for children to enjoy a rain of multicoloured threads.

Racing Towards
an Electric Future
project: CUPRA Lifeplace at Milan Design Week
client: CUPRA (Seat Group)
location: Milan, Italy
challenge
CUPRA (SEAT Group) was looking to make its mark in Italy by launching a new fully electric car at Milan Design Week 2021. But how do you stand out at the world’s biggest design festival?
concept
A journey from Barcelona to Milan: the beautiful Fonderia Napoleonica Eugenia was transformed into an immersive experience guiding visitors through the world of CUPRA. Considering their roots in Barcelona as a high-performance motorsport subsidiary of SEAT Group, we designed an experience that celebrated the brand’s arrival in Milan. The result was an immersive audiovisual journey across Europe, moving through the brand’s history and towards its electric future.

First Area:
origins

In the first area, the space hosted three organic islands that came to life with projection mapped content. CUPRA’s origin story was interpreted and abstracted through artistic depictions of key moments. The content was projected from above and spilled onto visitors as they navigated between the islands. The intention was to elicit an emotional connection in the audience, akin to the intangible feeling of driving a CUPRA car, ultimately making everyone part of the journey.

In the second area, layers of gauze created an ethereal space: a conceptual perspective where CUPRA’s ideas and values were expressed through delicate projections. Cartographic imagery intertwined with electric circuitry, marking the culmination of CUPRA’s fully electric arrival in Milan. The dim interior was interrupted by a sliver of light from the outdoors, inviting visitors to follow its path. The historic building served as a contrasting canvas for the innovative electric future depicted through the projections.

All in the
details
project: MDOTM HQ
client: MDODM ltd
location: Milan, Italy
challenge
One of the fastest growing fintech companies in Europe, MDOTM, required a new flexible working environment for their rapidly expanding team. They had recently acquired a new headquarters in a prime location in Milan and needed a space that reflected their values.
concept
No hierarchy. Transforming the historic building on Via Passione necessitated internal interventions to revive neglected spaces, overall resulting in a fresh interior design. Multiple zones were created to accommodate various roles within the company, maintaining an open flow, while carefully selected materials foster transparency and dismantle traditional hierarchies.
